With your knowledge of solving equations, analyze Derek's work with this equation. Is his answer reasonable? Where did he go wrong (Step 1 or Step 2)? What can Derek do to ensure he gets the correct solution?

ReplyDeletei agree with the operation because to find the answer that its telling us to find, we have to do what its telling us to do. we have to do it step by step and make sure the answer is correct.

ReplyDeleteI do not agree to Derek's answer on the problem because the his answer is eight when the correct answer is nine. He was doing fine in step one, but once it came to step two he made a mistake. It is right that he needed to divide because that is the inverse operation of multiplication, so he needed to divide 8 to both sides. When he divided 8 to 72 he said the answer was eight, but it is nine (he divided wrong). A way to check your work next time is to rewrite the equation, substitute the variable with the answer you got, then if it is equal then you're correct.

DeleteI disagree with Derek's answer in step 2 because his answer should be 9. He was okay in step 1, but in step 2, he divided the numbers wrong. 8 divided by 72 is 9, so the answer should be 9, instead of 8.

DeleteI disagree on Derek's answer on the problem because the answer would be nine not eight. He was correct on step 1, but when he came to step two he had a mistake. He was correct with step one but when you divide 72 by eight the answer would be something else. The answer would be nine. When you are going to check your work you substitute the answer you got to the equation and check if it is right.

ReplyDeleteDerek's answer is incorrect, in which I would agree on. This is due to his quotient being wrong. The correct solution to that was 9. However, he had his solution to the problem as d=8. If it were to be written down (8d=72), that will be incorrect. As you can see, 8 * 8 will give you the product of 64 instead of 72. Again, Derek's quotient, solution, answer, or whatsoever is incorrect.

ReplyDeleteI disagree with Derek's answer because when you divide 72 to 8 it will equal to 9, 9*8=72 so that is how you will get your answer. Derek did the other steps correct but when it cam to the division part he got it wrong. So Derek just got the value of the variable wrong.

Delete@Jovilyn I concur on yond with thee. Good explanation on how to check your work. And one way to do that is by substituting the variable or doing the inverse operation to check it. Sometimes, we would solve our work so fast without even checking if they are the right solutions. Unfortunately for Derek, his quotient to that one step equation problem was incorrect.

ReplyDeleteyes i think derekmade a mistake in mutltipplying because usually people would think that 8 times eight would be a higher number which is why he made the mistake in the first place whichis why we would need to check our work
ReplyDeleteDerek made a mistake. He divided it wrong. He made the mistake in step 2. instead of dividing i think he kept the 8 on the left and crossed out the right side.Derek should of checked his work by doing the check.
